A Brand New Awards Initiative Celebrating Kelowna Women
Welcome back KWIB followers!! We’re just like you in that we can’t believe how fast July and August passed by – over the summer KWIB takes an informal break and ramps thing back up in September for the next new season…
The Board of Directors was busy planning (truth be told, we’re still planning!) and getting everything in order to welcome you all with a full calendar of events and opportunities to make new connections, grow your skill-sets, networks, and businesses. And this year promises to be bigger and better than ever!
We’re incredibly proud to announce a BRAND NEW initiative set for spring 2020, a passion project of ours that’s been in the works for over a year: an opportunity to celebrate and honor the achievements of the inspirational women, change-makers, and youth of Kelowna. So here we go!! For the very first time, let us present to you the first annual Kelowna Women in Business “Rise Awards” ~ officially launching November 1st, with awards banquet slated to occur March 18th, 2020!!
Recognizing a need to shine a spotlight on the amazing women and people in our community, the inaugural Rise Awards will debut two new Awards up for grabs: “Woman Of The Year”, and “Changemaker”
1. Woman Of The Year – open to any female business owner or corporate professional in Kelowna; An individual who represents KWIB values and mission – demonstrates inclusivity, champion for women in the workforce, leader and role-model within her industry, and actively involved with the community.
2. Changemaker – open to any person: youth or student 15+, corporate professional or business owner in Kelowna; An individual who represents KWIB values and mission, who demonstrates inclusivity, is an advocate for change, role-model, socially conscious and community-oriented, and someone who – by personal and/or professional example – helps to make Kelowna a better place to live.
WE ALL KNOW SOMEONE who deserves to be nominated for their achievements and contributions to the community (self nominations are welcome as well) – so stay tuned for more details as we launch the platform and open up nominations later this fall!!
Dress For Success 2019-2020
A HUGE thanks to you all for coming out last season to each KWIB event, finding your tribe with a Membership, and supporting our special fundraising efforts ~ we were so excited to be able to present a cheque to our 2018-2019 charity affiliation ETCETERA YOUTH for $6,500 at our September 11th event.
We’re proud to announce our new Charity affiliation for the 2019-2020 season is DRESS FOR SUCCESS KELOWNA!
“Our vision is a world where women do not live in poverty. We strive for a world where all women are financially independent, are treated with dignity and respect and are directly impacting their lives and those of their families. We aspire to a world that fully harnesses the power of women and recognizes their role in economic sustainability.
Our purpose is to offer long-lasting solutions that enable women to break the cycle of poverty. Dress for Success is part of a global movement for change, empowering women to obtain safer and better futures.
We provide each client with professional attire to secure employment, but we are about much more than simply a new outfit. Besides physically equipping the client with apparel and accessories, our programs furnish her with a confidence that she carries forever and the knowledge that she can actively define her life, the direction she takes and what success means to her”.
WATCH OUT KELOWNA – The ladies of DFS Kelowna are on a powerful mission, and we can’t wait to introduce you all at our upcoming events!
Who will you be making new connections with this year?
Hopefully it’s with us! We welcome all women – entrepreneurs and corporate professionals alike – to come and attend the informative/educational events, networking minglers, and workshops we have planned this year.
