My leadership style is about communication and collaboration. First, I listen and understand the vision. (Junior PMs may rush this, leading to miscommunication and mismanagement of teams — and, ultimately, failed projects.)
I communicate honestly, managing expectations to define the scope and schedule. I plan the steps to achieve goals within budget and on time, which requires both creativity and pragmatism.
I lead teams with empathy, capitalizing on each person’s strengths. I plan how to address anticipated problems. When a problem is unexpected, I problem-solve in real time.
Time management, leadership skills, and a strong business acumen enable me to lead teams to meet sponsors’ goals. The 787 Dreamliner program for WestJet was the largest business transformation project I’ve managed, with a multi-million-dollar budget —resulting in a huge corporate success.
